Energy
Riverside 2 is a major new energy from waste facility at Riverside Energy Park in Belvedere, designed for the treatment of municipal solid waste and non-hazardous industrial waste, with capacity to handle around 650,000 tonnes a year. Elysium Construction was appointed by HZI, the EPC contractor for the facility, to deliver the CP5b minor civil works package, a wide ranging scope of site-wide minor civil, structural and external works spanning multiple building sections of the project.
Scope of works
The package covered the supply and installation of grouting to steel structures, equipment supports, pumps and skids, together with reinforced concrete plinths, upstand walls, RC walls and concrete infill works. Blockwork closures, epoxy coatings to bunds and selected concrete surfaces, external concrete slabs, gabion walls and key clamp handrails followed, alongside underground service connections, induction loops, automated entrance and exit gates, mastic jointing and other miscellaneous civil works required across the site.
Risks
Every activity sat inside a live major infrastructure environment, which meant careful coordination with other contractors, designers and ongoing construction activities rather than working to our own programme in isolation.
The works involved several areas of specialist coordination, including grouting beneath structural steel baseplates and process equipment, forming secondary reinforced concrete plinths once heavy equipment had been installed, completing concrete upstand walls and infill works, and delivering external works such as the AD area slab, gabion basket wall and underground service connections. Access, sequencing, temporary works, interface coordination and quality control were managed closely across different building sections at once.
Value engineering
A key part of the package was the ability to work across different building sections while maintaining programme, quality and safety requirements. Each activity was delivered in accordance with the technical specification, drawings and project requirements, with sequencing and access managed proactively alongside the wider project team.
Riverside 2 demonstrates Elysium Construction's capability to deliver technically demanding civil engineering packages within large scale industrial and energy infrastructure projects, while maintaining a high standard of workmanship, coordination and delivery.
Two small decisions to make. I have labelled the opening block "Overview" and added a "Scope of works" heading, which the live pages do not use, since they run the intro unlabelled and go straight into "Risks". If you want a closer match to Earls Gate, drop both labels and let the two opening paragraphs run as one unbroken intro under the image. The project details block and the metadata still sit at the foot of the file, along with the source links.
